Back Home From Kentucky

We had a fabulous visit with all the family in Kentucky. Many thanks to Lisa and Jim for putting us up and feeding us. Marianne and Ashley send their thanks to Heather for the bunnies.

The trip home went very well with 3 people, 2 dogs, 4 bunnies, and 6 chicks. The bunnies were quieter on the trip home than the chicks were. But the chicks did very well. Between Marianne's hiccups and peeps we almost had a rythm going for a while there.






The chicks were introduced to Bob and Abigail as soon as we got home. Some of the chicks were braver than others and came out...then the rest got assistance. They liked the bigger space after riding home in the crate and ran around the pen flapping their wings. Everyone seem to be happy and healthy today.

Summer Days

Marianne's friend Ashley spent the night and they had a good time together. They really had fun in the pool.

I started making a baby blankie quite some time ago, but working two jobs was not conducive to getting it completed on time. Now that Logan is 7 weeks old, I have finally finished it. I will take it to him tomorrow when Marianne and I go to Greenville to babysit him so that Mickie and Tim can go to see a movie.

I picked a bunch of tomatoes out of the garden, gave many away, and still have these left, so I made a batch of spagetti sauce out of them. Marianne approved.

I also made quite a haul on the corn on the cob. We ate some, shared some, and put some in the freezer.

Mickie's friend Katie came up for a visit just before I went to Honduras. She wanted me to make a cake for her and she is a Lilo and Stitch fan, so I made this cake for her. I am a bit out of practice on doing a cake like this, but it turned out pretty cute anyway.

To Greenville to see that baby

Logan is a cutie. He is getting so big. He grew so much while I was gone. He is 6 weeks old now and weighs 12 pounds.

We played a new board game over at Tim and Mickie's called Train. It was fun and I won, so that was cool too.

Marianne did an amazing job taking care of the house, the garden, and all the animals while I was gone to Honduras. Then shortly after my return I still had a big haul from the garden. (Marianne has green beans coming out of her ears.) I even made a big pan eggplant parmesan, from the garden of course, and took it with us to Greenville for dinner. It was yummy.

Honduras Trip

The trip to Honduras was amazing. The country is absolutely stunning....and then you have the ugliness of the horrific poverty that is there. Much of the country lives in conditions that we would not allow our pets to live in. In fact, the dog house that I built for Sam many years ago is much better than most of them have. I am very thankful for all that the Lord has allowed me to have. I am very blessed.

We went to 2 schools up in the mountains while we were there, all of which were grades 1 - 6. One was a one room school, the other a 2 room school. The kids were very well mannered and very gracious and thankful for the school supplies we brought for them. We visited a couple of the mountain churches were the youth on the trip did some dramas and Pastor Josh (our youth pastor) did some preaching. We prayed for those that wanted prayer.

Many of the things I would have liked to take pictures of I couldn't because of where we were and such.

San Pedro Sula was quite hot and very muggy. It is full of graffiti, some gang related, but a lot of it is politically driven. Driving through San Pedro Sula is like driving through Atlanta with traffic laws.

It was pretty hot there, but cooler tempertures in the mountains that what it was in Anderson while we were in Honduras. In fact, it has been hotter here since I got back. It was 103 here yesterday, and 101 today. I came through a terrible, hurricane like storm coming back from main street today and was excited because it was raining...the grass is turning brown, not good...but when I got home, there was no rain here.

Honduras - Here we come

I will be leaving in a couple of hours for Atlanta. Then we fly out early in the morning for Honduras. They have set up a blogspot so that you can keep track of us while we are down there and see what we are doing and where we are. So check it out while I am gone.

Chickens!

Bob had a customer in Due West that was trying to get rid of some of his chickens, roosters actually, and it turned out that they were Plymouth Barred Rocks. So Bob gave the guy some free freon and the guy gave Bob a rooster and a hen. So now I have a pair of chickens for my beautified chicken pen. They are very tame. You can pick them up. It's cool. In recognition for his good deed, I have named the rooster after Bob and the hen is Abigail.

Jim gave me these 3 plants - they are some sort of flowering plant/bush. I don't know what they are called but they are pretty and when they get bigger, they will provide some shade from the afternoon sun for the chickens. The one in the middle is starting to bloom.

The grape plants, which were little sticks when I got them, are growing nicely.

Garden Harvest

Memorial Day harvest of the garden resulted in more food than we could eat. We've eaten broccoli and spinach almost every day and we've barely made a dent in it. Obviously, I need to learn the proper way to freeze fresh broccoli.

Thank God school is almost out. I've had more than I can stand there this year. They have again promoted someone with no credentials or degrees or certification when there are people in the building that do have the degrees and certification. The good ole' boys system is alive and well here. It's all been pretty sickening. They have let more teachers go and yet keep people that are 'double dipping' on the TERI Program.....collecting paycheck and retirement from the district. They have even extended the TERI Program another year, overturning a previous vote to get rid of it because of the added expense to the district. Don't get me wrong I AM thankful that I have a job. But what happen to common sense??

Well, I leave a week from Sunday for Honduras. I am excited about that. I am not ready yet, but I am looking forward to what the Lord has in store for us.

I was on my way home from work Tuesday and saw this beautiful display in the sky...I was hoping I was going home for real!
