Birthdays, Family, and Fun

This giant cantelope is on its way to Lisa and Jim's house via Andy. This is one of the really big ones. It weighs 8 1/2 pounds. It is not yet at optimal ripeness. By Wednesday it should be very tasty. I picked a 6 1/2 pound one the other day. We are still eating that one. I fed one of the other ones to the horses. They were delighted with that. I think they liked that cantelope even more than they like watermelon.

Mickie, Tim, Logan, and Barry were all over in honor of Mickie's 27th birthday....I am getting so old....anyway we had a good visit. I made a Strawberry Shortcake Character Cake for the birthday; one of Mickie's old favorites from childhood.

Logan is growing like a weed...cutest baby ever!! He is already 9 weeks old. He was 24 1/4 inches and 15.1 pounds at his last check up. He is still working on holding up his own head. His individual personality is starting to come out more and more. Did I mention that I love my grandson?

The baby chicks are growing like crazy. I think it is like the fish and the size of the aquarium thing because the chicks seem to be growing more every single day.

I have been working on making them a little bit tamer so I was thrilled when they finally decided that they trusted me enough to eat out of my hands

They are all doing well and seem to be well adjusted. Many thanks to Jim and Lisa for these chicks.

Back Home From Kentucky

We had a fabulous visit with all the family in Kentucky. Many thanks to Lisa and Jim for putting us up and feeding us. Marianne and Ashley send their thanks to Heather for the bunnies.

The trip home went very well with 3 people, 2 dogs, 4 bunnies, and 6 chicks. The bunnies were quieter on the trip home than the chicks were. But the chicks did very well. Between Marianne's hiccups and peeps we almost had a rythm going for a while there.

The chicks were introduced to Bob and Abigail as soon as we got home. Some of the chicks were braver than others and came out...then the rest got assistance. They liked the bigger space after riding home in the crate and ran around the pen flapping their wings. Everyone seem to be happy and healthy today.

Many thanks to Lisa and Jim for raising the chicks for me!!

Summer Days

Marianne's friend Ashley spent the night and they had a good time together. They really had fun in the pool.
I started making a baby blankie quite some time ago, but working two jobs was not conducive to getting it completed on time. Now that Logan is 7 weeks old, I have finally finished it. I will take it to him tomorrow when Marianne and I go to Greenville to babysit him so that Mickie and Tim can go to see a movie.
...some of the details can be seen here...

I picked a bunch of tomatoes out of the garden, gave many away, and still have these left, so I made a batch of spagetti sauce out of them. Marianne approved.

I also made quite a haul on the corn on the cob. We ate some, shared some, and put some in the freezer.

Mickie's friend Katie came up for a visit just before I went to Honduras. She wanted me to make a cake for her and she is a Lilo and Stitch fan, so I made this cake for her. I am a bit out of practice on doing a cake like this, but it turned out pretty cute anyway.
